I saved a stinkbug today. I just picked it up and let it go outside. Why am I telling you this? Because to me it was the next right thing to do. That next right thing is also what America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) is all about—and we’ve done it right through the pandemic. Here’s how:
- We switched seamlessly to working from home back in March and continue to ensure our staff’s safety.
- We’ve had zero layoffs and zero pay cuts—and actually promoted multiple people.
And we’re still growing! But we get it: It can be difficult to imagine how training and working from home, even temporarily, could work in this age of social distancing. That’s why we asked some of our newest employees to tell you what it’s like.
“I wanted a job where I could work from home with COVID,” said Customer Service Representative (CSR) Susannah. “I applied, and Ron reached out to me within just a day or two. It was a super quick turnaround,” she said.
“I saw good reviews from previous and current employees at APHW,” said CSR Debra. “And the hiring process was so professional! I could tell that my recruiter, Sandy, really wanted me to succeed. She took extra time to make sure I had all the information I needed, and they really made me feel competent and desirable.”
“We couldn’t use the smaller training room because of COVID, so we actually used the call center,” Debra said. “I felt very comfortable—we were all spaced out, and it was just a top-of-the-line protocol. And of course our trainer, Patty, was beyond awesome.”
“I asked a ton of questions, because that’s how I learn,” Susannah said. “Patty was amazing, and I’m thankful that we were able to meet a couple of the other managers as well, because that made it easier to ask more questions later on.”
Home with Support
“I think it’s great,” Susannah said. “Especially right now, the way we’re able to be set up at home and have the equipment and everything. It’s a really good setup, as long as you’re prepared to learn new skills and jump into it. There’s a lot of room for growth and opportunity, too.”
“It’s a little bit of a challenge working at home, but that support group is there, and I honestly don’t have any qualms about reaching out because I know it will be seen positively,” Debra said. “Plus, this company holds you to a reasonable standard of a trainee, doesn’t micromanage you, and ensures supervisors are there for you whenever you need assistance. Their core values really show through,” she added, “one of the most important of which is integrity—doing the next right thing, even when nobody’s looking.”
