It Boils Down to Loving What You DoTed Fithian is in sales, and he’s good at it. He was recently awarded 2018 Salesperson of the Year with the highest year-over-year growth and overall territory development of his colleagues. “I was surprised and extremely honored. I knew I had a fairly good year, but I didn’t realize it was quite that good,” said the America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) Eastern Georgia Area Sales Manager. But here’s the kicker: Ted didn’t even realize he was doing so well.

He was just enjoying the ride.

“I get up every morning with an opportunity to work for a company and a product that I totally believe in. I believe in the mission, and I just completely enjoy what I do. It’s not ‘work’ to me,” Ted said. “It all just boils down to loving what you do.”

Teamwork is Key

APHW is a Christian company with a cohesive team from top to bottom, and Ted places much of his success on his coworkers’ shoulders. “I couldn’t do what I do without the support I get from everybody in the home office,” he said. “They make our job easy, because we know they’re doing right by our customers.”

Ted finds joy in working with the tightly-knit real estate community as well.  “APHW’s reputation goes a long way. When an agent is comfortable or has a good experience working with us, they like to tell other people about it,” he said. “It’s such a wonderful thing to get a phone call from someone you’ve never met before, saying, ‘I’ve heard great things about you and your company, and I’d like to start working with you.’”

In the end, Ted’s only advice to those who would join his team is this: “I’ve been in sales my entire career, and I was always the guy trying to chase the money. For the first time in my life, I quit doing that and decided I wanted to work for a company I could be proud of—and because of that, it’s not work to me. I just get up every day with a purpose and a goal, and I stick to the process,” he said. “The more people that you see and talk to, the more will have good experiences—and the more will want to do business with you.”
