What makes an Employee of the Month? Great ideas? Hard work? Showing a passion for success? These are certainly part of it. But as someone who has achieved it twice in under a year (among more than 250 employees), Jennifer knows that sometimes quiet perseverance shines the brightest.
“If you’re going to do something, you need to do it to the best of your ability and put your all into it,” said the America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) Accounts Receivable Clerk. “If you’re not going to do it wholeheartedly, then why do it at all?”
Though the acknowledgement did catch her by surprise. “Strange?” she responded with a laugh when asked how she felt. “I definitely was not expecting it!”
This selection came as a direct result of Jennifer’s stepping up during COVID-19 and social separation. While the majority of APHW staff work from home right now, she chose to stay behind and process the checks that come in daily—a task that normally takes 3 to 4 people at different stages. “As the mail comes in, I sort it, open it, review it, scan it, log it, and process it, all of which were shared duties,” she said, adding that leadership regularly offer support and encouragement.
Jennifer said that staying behind just made sense to her. “My boyfriend and daughter still work, and we’re all pretty healthy,” she said. “It was just the right thing to do. Though I would like to thank my whole team, because they all have stuff they’re working through at home, struggling with things like internet outages and isolation. But at least they get to wear their ‘jammies!” she joked.
In the end, Jennifer is looking forward to her full team’s return. “I miss people,” she said. “It’s not as fun as it was with all my coworkers here. I’m definitely looking forward to people coming back.”
