How to Support Local Contractors for Small Business Saturday

America's Preferred Home Warranty, Supporting Small Businesses

2020 has been a tough year for many small businesses. With Small Business Saturday arriving November 28th, America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) wanted to show our support for the small business community by giving special attention to the local licensed contractors that repair our home appliances and systems.

Here are some ways you can show support to the contractors that work in your local community, and let them know just how much you appreciate everything they do.

Leave a good review

Positive customer reviews are the lifeblood of any small business. Whether you’ve used a licensed local contractor recently, or they helped you out some time ago, take a few minutes to leave them a review on Google, Yelp, or Facebook so others can learn about your positive experience.

The algorithms that drive many of these websites use customer reviews to help businesses get noticed. By leaving a review about their services, you’re not only boosting their rating, you’re also making them more visible on these networks.

Refer a friend

If you thought customer reviews were powerful, try recommending your local licensed contractor to a friend for some free word-of-mouth advertising. Few things are as valuable to a business as new customers, so by sharing your experience with family and friends, you’re giving them a huge lift of support.

Many small businesses also offer discounts or bonuses for referring a friend, just like our free $50 gift card for referring a friend to APHW. This means you could create a true win, win, win for everyone involved by simply helping someone you know connect with a maintenance and repair person you (and they) can trust.

Share it on social

If you really want to go the extra mile in supporting a local small business, share your experience with all your social media followers! Here are some tips on how to make your recommendation the most effective:

  • Share pictures of the work your licensed contractor performed if possible.
  • Tag their business in the post so people can see who they are and where they’re located.
  • Write a detailed review about your experience – the more you share, the better.

No matter how they’re given, reviews and recommendations are the best ways to support a local small business outside of hiring them for other projects. Speaking of which

Hire them for other projects

Many licensed contractors are general contractors moonlighting as specialists. Had a contractor fix an appliance or do some remodeling at your home? They might be skilled in other areas as well.

If you have someone you really like and trust working in (and on) your home, get in touch and see what other kinds of services they offer. You might find that the guy who replaced your windows can also paint your home’s interior, or that the woman who fixed your fridge is extremely skilled at tile work. Once you know how far their expertise goes, you can offer support in the form of more work and revenue for their business!

One of the biggest advantages of an APHW home warranty is the ability to “Choose Your Own Licensed Contractor,” which helps support local contractors working in your community. Plus, it gives you the benefit of having someone you trust work inside your home on your preferred schedule. You can learn more about APHW and our services here.
